Posted by budiman mohd | 9:54 PM | Dodge, Dodge Viper, New Cars, Racing | 0 comments »
Today, Dodge unveiled the third limited, special-edition version of the soon-to-be-discontinued Viper SRT10 sports car, dubbed ACR-X. Based largely upon the Viper SRT10 ACR, the new model is a turn-key, non-street legal, racer that's powered by a tweaked version of the standard Viper's 8.4-liter V10 that gains new headers and a low-restriction exhaust system, increasing output by 40HP to 640 horsepower.
The Viper SRT10 ACR-X's suspension has been upgraded and tuned specifically for track usage, while the sport car's weight is lightened by 160 pounds (73 kg) over the standard production model.
Dodge said that the car also features additional aerodynamic upgrades to improve downforce as well as to enhance stability and grip in high-speed cornering.
As a track racer, the Viper ACR-X comes with all the usual factory-installed safety equipment such as a factory-designed roll cage, fuel cell and race seat.
Dodge said that during a testing session of the ACR-X at Laguna Seca raceway last month, professional driver Kuno Wittmer from the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship series, was able to run consistent 1:31.00 lap times around the 2.238-mile, 11-turn course.
This means that Wittmer's lap times were more than 3 seconds faster than the street-legal Viper SRT10 ACR which holds the production car track record at Laguna Seca raceway.
"The Dodge Viper ACR-X is incredible," said Wittmer. "After a short warm up, I was running lap times as quick as exotic GT race cars. I was blown away by the power and acceleration, and even more surprised at how the ACR-X navigated the challenging Laguna Seca corners and how friendly it was to drive at the limit."
The limited production 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X will go on sale in the States in Spring 2010 with prices starting from around $110,000.
Dodge Viper: future sale possible

It an intriguing move in the car industry, Fiat has taken on the Dodge Viper supercar brand by taking on the franchise as part of the Fiat-Chrysler deal. The Viper brand has been in dire straits, and may not be safe under Fiat management either.
Plans were to sell Viper, but at ten million dollars, Chrysler couldn’t find a buyer. Fiat may find the task just as hard, with Devon Motor Works apparently being the only bidder at a mere 5.5 million dollars.
The Viper has been an icon in American sports cars since it first appeared in 1992, but may risk going by the wayside as Fiat protects its own Maserati and Ferrari supercar brands. While Fiat may recognise the differences between its luxury Italian sportscars and a US V10 supercar, things are tense for lovers of the Viper brand.
Dodge Durango vs Toyota Sequoia
Posted by budiman mohd | 10:45 PM | Dodge, Dodge Durango, Durango, Sequoia, TOYOTA, Toyota Sequoia | 0 comments »These days, Wall Street's industry analysts love to talk about how the Japanese are threatening America's last bastion of automotive dominance: trucks. But as the following comparison of one of the best American sport utility vehicles and one of the best from Japan indicates, the threat is still a distant one (the government considers SUVs "light trucks").
Toyota Motor's Sequoia SUV is longer than DaimlerChrysler's Dodge Durango. The Sequoia seats one more passenger than the Durango (eight versus seven) and has the Toyota badge on it, which means an excellent reputation for quality and reliability. Yet in 2004, the Durango outsold the Sequoia in the United States by a ratio of nearly 2.5-to-1.
Toyota's vehicles--with a few exceptions such as its Echo compact--are among the most competitive in the auto business, and in several cases outsell their American competitors. One need not look too hard, however, to see why the cheaper and more powerful Durango is cleaning house in the showrooms.
For one thing, its volume is increasing because it is, in effect, a hot new player in the full-size SUV game. The Durango used to be more of a midsize SUV, but the vehicle bulked up to 201 inches of overall length after a 2004 overhaul and entered the 204-inch Sequoia's ken.
With added competition from Nissan Motor's new, full-size Armada SUV--whose named was changed from Pathfinder Armada to avoid confusion with Nissan's Pathfinder SUV--the Sequoia is beginning to look old. Its styling isn't great, and, unlike those of the Durango, its buyers can't answer contemporary advertising by saying, "This thing does indeed have a HEMI."
Daimler has had surprising success at resuscitating HEMI, the brand name its Chrysler Group (including Dodge) uses on certain large, high-horsepower engines. According to a statement released in December, Chrysler Group has sold more than 469,000 vehicles with a HEMI inside since introducing its 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine for the 2003 model year. In Chrysler Group vehicles where HEMI is offered, the take-rate is 46%. In addition to its optional, 335-hp HEMI V-8, the Durango offers an interior that is comparatively upscale for a Detroit car, and is one of the best examples of Detroit's forte: truck building.
General Motors Ford Motor and Chrysler still build attractive, powerful trucks. Nissan is encroaching on traditional Detroit territory with increasingly big truck engines, and Toyota's next generation full-size pickup--the replacement for the Tundra--will be more on the money in terms of styling.
But America's seeming embrace of domestic truck styling is a mitigating factor in the success of vehicles such as the Durango. The handsome looks of Ford's F-Series pickups help make them the country's best-selling vehicles; after all, the F-Series' competitors offer comparable engines, body styles and varieties of configurations, and have similarly less-than-perfect reputations for reliability.
American truck makers also have more dealers here than the Japanese, and a different audience. The Durango and Sequoia are body-on-frame trucks--vehicles in which the body structures are attached to separate frames, as opposed to the combined body-and-chassis structures of "unitized" cars--and buyers of such vehicles have traditionally tended to be blue collar and, in many cases, distrusting of import brands.
Of course, Toyota's reputation is sterling, and even traditional American truck buyers can't deny the Sequoia. It has 282 hp and a well-designed, roomy interior. It is sold by dealers who don't have a reputation for being particularly friendly, but offer extremely high-quality cars.
However, the Durango also has a geographic advantage over the Sequoia. The popularity and reputation of Japanese cars stems from America's coasts and branches out to the country's middle. But trucks are more popular in the heartland, in places such as the Deep South, the Sun Belt and the Midwest, where far more trucks exist per capita than on the coasts. Trucks are thus something of a red-state phenomenon, something that plays more into the hands of the Midwest-based American automakers than the blue-state-oriented Japanese.

The New Model Cars From BMW

Posted by budiman mohd | 8:22 PM | Aston Martin, Aston Martin Rapide, Frankfurt Motor Show, Galleries, New Cars | 0 comments »
First deliveries of Aston Martin's first series production four-door saloon will commence early in 2010 with detailed pricing expected to be announced later in the year. The Rapide, which has stayed true to the prototype model, will be offered exclusively with Aston Martin's hand built 6.0-liter V12 engine that makes 477HP at 6,000 rpm and 600Nm (443 lbft) of peak torque at 5000 rpm.
All that grunt is delivered to the rear wheels through a specially tuned version of Aston's six-speed 'Touchtronic 2' automatic transmission that allows the driver to change gear automatically or manually via the steering column-mounted magnesium paddles.
The British firm has yet to release performance figures, but drivers should expect a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of a little over 5,0 seconds.
"Rapide is the culmination of the Aston Martin range of sports cars, a car that seals the revival of a truly admired marque. There is now an Aston Martin for every taste and for every use," said Chief Executive, Dr. Ulrich Bez.
"With Rapide, the entire family can enjoy their Aston Martin together in unison, in an invigorating yet comfortable environment, sitting low, with plenty of visibility from every seat and with new levels of comfort, refinement and entertainment."
The Rapide features four 'swan wing' doors that open slightly upwards revealing the saloon's 2+2 seating layout. The boot capacity is 301-liters which is roughly the same size as the luggage compartment of the Ford Fiesta (...). Not that we're expecting many to do so, but the Rapide's rear seats fold flat at the touch of a button to create a flat loading space, thus increasing the luggage compartment to 750-liters.
The Rapide will be the first car in Aston Martin's history to be built outside of Britain as production will be carried out by Magna Steyr at the firm's Austrian plant in Graz.
