Ford of Switzerland has released a special version of the European market Focus RS called "WRC Edition" that will be produced in a limited run of 50 units. The special series was announced last year as part of Ford's festivities for the 40th anniversary of its RS division.
The Focus RS WRC Edition, which pays tribute to the legendary Escort RS1600 that was launched in 1970, was designed with the help of Swiss fans that participated in a special design competition organized by Ford. You can check out some of the proposals that were submitted by fans after the jump.
The fifty WRC specials are distinguished on the outside by the "Frozen White" paint finish that's contrasted by black and green stickers and stripes as well as the 19-inch OZ Superturismo GT multispoke alloys in black.
In the cockpit there's a special plaque that bears the signatures of Ford Rally drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen.
There are no changes under the bonnet with the WRC Edition being propelled from 0-100km/h (62mph) in under 6 seconds and on to a top speed of 263km/h (163mph) by the same 305HP 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five found in the 'standard' RS.
Pricing for the Focus RS WRC Edition has been set at 55,900 francs or about US$53,050 / €37,950 at today's exchange rates.
Pride of place on the Ford Geneva Show stand went to the Iosis MAX concept car that essentially previews the looks of the next generation C-MAX compact minivan that is due in 2011 as well as of the 2010 Focus. The four-seater MPV features a dramatic exterior and interior treatment based on a fresh interpretation of Ford's kinetic design form language. "Our designers have stretched themselves beyond the two previous iosis concepts, and have applied to a MAV," said Martin Smith, Ford of Europe's Executive Design Director. "The iosis MAX proves that cars in the compact MAV class can have emotive, dynamic styling without sacrificing their traditional virtues of practicality or efficiency – something that the larger and revolutionary S-MAX has already demonstrated."
The Iosis MAX also showcases new door opening concepts, lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamics, and a preview of the European development of Ford's global EcoBoost petrol engine technology that will hit the market in 2010.
In particular, the Iosis MAX is powered by a 1.6-litre 180HP four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from Ford's new EcoBoost engine family. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed PowerShift double-clutch automated manual gearbox with ratios tailored to deliver maximum fuel efficiency.
In addition, the concept features a new Auto-Start-Stop system which is also due for production in 2010. Ford claims that simulations predict that the concept vehicle could achieve CO2 emissions as lows as 125g/km.
