Since it debut in the U.S. market, the eighth-generation of Evo-Lancer Evo 8 is a rally-bred sports car based on the original Mitsubishi Lancer.
All the torque and horsepower have been upgrade and ACD system become standard in the year of 2005. In the meantime, the versions with RS are also available.
The Lancer Evo series has been evolved over the years as a result of Mitsubishi’s effort in competing in the World Rally Championship and other major motorsport events around the globe. At the moment, Lancer series has attracted a wide crowd of enthusiast drivers.
There is no doubt that the Lancer Evo 8 is a really serious performance machine. Despite of the fact that its passenger cabin is the almost the same as the regular Lancers, and the body shape is fairly similar.
The old heavier steel panels of the stock Lancer has been replaced with the aluminum fenders. They have been blistered to fit the Lancer Evo's wider track and wider tires.
As mentioned above, the light aluminum hood is very good at engine cooling and aerodynamic efficiency. And it has an air dam to decrease lift as well as extra openings in the front panel to vent cooling air to brakes and intercooler. There is a very large wing made of real carbon fiber.
But it does more to decrease visibility than to generate downforce at legal speeds which it should do. It also got huge Brembo brakes in addition to Enkei alloy wheels to reach maximum performance, not just a designer-favored stuff.
By any measurements, Rally-spec Lancer is a great drive. It’s fast and forgiving. To forgive its low-rent trim and find a courageous but not too greedy insurer are all you need to do.
